So I tried grooveshark for the 1st time after finding this post while I was playing EVE today. Much better than Pandora since you can hear exactly who you're in the mood for :)

Love grooveshark, signed up for the vip package so I could stream to the phone.
If you've ever thought about the vip package I would like to say in my opinion it's about the only real benefit to it, the mobile service that is.
The ads on grooveshark never bothered me, and even with the free version I never ran into a problem with the playlists (the vip gives you much more in terms of playlists supposedly)
Also, using the mobile service on a Verizon 3G Blackberry Bold, it's more sluggish then Pandora which is disappointing. I go through some very rural areas as well, and it will stop playback while it sits waiting to buffer a long time when it switches between 3G/1XEV, so I often have to stop the song and go to the next so it works.
Just my personal experience with it, thought I'd share in case anyone thought about the vip package.

I just tried grooveshark: seems quite practical
I usually listen to instrumental music while playing, it fits (at least for me) and provides less distractions. One of my favourite sites is
www.streamingsountracks.com
. Ok, you won't be able to make up your own playlists there, but then again it's all soundtracks and you avoid the hassle of choosing what to listen to. I'm thinking of actually finding my favourite pieces from Streaming Soundtracks and searching for them in Grooveshark: one nice long OST playlist - best of both worlds!

you can do "radio stations" in grooveshark, wherein it will take your listening preferences and add in songs to your play lists based on other music to which you have previously listened.
I believe they are working very hard toward getting the licensing agreement contracts in place must like Rhapsody has now where you pay one flat fee and then get to actually download the music as well. We'll see. I just know that between Grooveshark and Youtube, it never occurs to me to buy music. The last CD I bought was Tool's 10,000 Days, in 2005. Before that...I don't even remember. With the New Advertising models though, I've become part of the solution, not the problem. I will say on the other hand that I do NOT download music either. I much prefer to stream it and then can show me ads all day long OR let me pay a flat subscription fee.
Glad you like it so far.

@ Mocker:
I also use YouTube and other websites for streaming music I like (you can also find good music on Vimeo). Whenever I find something that impresses me, I usually buy it. I could easily say that streaming has become the main way of choosing what albums I buy. It is much better to know what you are buying by having listened - and approved - a priori.
