necro-ing.  If you work in a cube, then most likely have to deal with a web filter.  Test this one out at work.  Filter recognizes that you are surfing, but only to the initial site.

Bingo this is great. I'm often getting blocked at work from harmless websites that somehow get flagged by our all-mighty-firewall - which takes about 3 layers of bureaucracy to get unblocked. Plus I'll be using this at home from time to time ;) Good work Seni.

Interesting read on the ultraSurf site about how Tor wrote a paper about them.  I have been using Tor for about a year now.  These programs are used in The exact same way.  While I absolutely cannot speak to what is going on behind the scenes, a.k.a. in the code, their user interfaces seem to be identical with one glarring exception:  on the ultrasurf video tutorial there is a Flash advertisement showing on the very first page.  Flash does not work in the Tor browser, nor does any type of non-HTML code.   This is extremely restrictive in terms of functionality, meaning you will never use Tor as your primary browser unless the only thing you do on the Internet is search for educational text.

Ultrasurf looks to be the superior product. I am going to check it out today. Much appreciated, Sen.

Just remember one thing folks: while your browser may offer a great deal of security, never forget that what you post can be traceable and no amount of software will ever make up for the content you post that may compromise your own security.

free VPN, have to configure it yourself, but well worth it to those who are on the go and want to connect to home.

As much as I've read about it, I'm still lost as to how to implement as well as WHY DO I NEED ONE?

It's weird... I know I want one, but fucked if I know if I need it.  I reckon it's more of a "just to say I have/did it" than any real need.

currently the DHS and the FBI are very curious on who and what torrents are being downloaded.  They have demanded of service providers to monitor your web traffic.  Having a VPN, closes off your web traffic from prying eyes.

if you are downloading via p2p, the whole point is that lots of other people know what your ip is and what you are downloading.  People often use Tor to try and prevent their torrenting being seen but all it is doing is hurting the end node on Tor with loads of traffic. :/

I use Tor For browsing topics that I really don't want the government to see me browsing.  No, that does not mean porn. If the government wants to know what flavor titties I like, they're welcome to it.  I am more than happy to stay to the world that I fucking love redheads.

As far as torrents go, I don't like to state that I use Pirate Bay out on the public forum.  This is primarily because I fucked up and got my real name associated with the username Mocker.  As the root domain is also associated with me so anyone who really wants to dig for a whole ten seconds can find that my real name is associated with either of the two gaming sites that I'm associated with.   I just will not make it as easy as possible for them, But I am under no illusions that if they want to see what I'm doing they're going to see it.

I have been telling everybody for years that the NSA sees everything you do when it comes to electronic anything.   Some of you will call me a tin foiler, Some may acknowledge it.   If you do not believe this, you are a na├»ve fool.   You don't need tinfoil to read what has already been exposed and admitted to.  (And please pardon my grammar, not in the mood at the moment)

I use the Tor network When there are keywords involved that I would much rather not be looked at for looking up.  "Assassinate the President" and "how to join Al-Queda" come to mind initially.  Do I want to do either of these things? Hell fuck no!  However, Know Thyne Enemy is a guiding principle in my life and I will be damned if I make it easy to be looked at with a shaking, accusing finger because I use the Internet to educate myself on all possible angles.  I do also have to say that it does pain me a bit that I have to call certain people enemies simply because a bunch of rich, fatcats who despise me as a person for my social and economic standing have deigned to implement a plan of eradication of an entire culture.  To go along the same path as Mohamed Ali, "no Arab ever called me nigger".

What I have never done is use the TOR network For downloading torrents, that just seems counterintuitive and frankly silly to me.  It's like putting on four condoms to get busy...sure it's safer but it may take you a while to BOOM!

Anyway, I believe I will have to split these last few posts out of this topic to retain the purpose of the original post.  I do like where this is going and absolutely will enjoy watching it flesh out. Perhaps I might even learn how to do my own VPN in the process.
