I got into Steve Vai for a while until I realized he has a fan on stage for the soul purpose of making his hair look like it's blowing in the breeze. Guys got some amazing chops as far as shredding on the 6 string, but the whole fan thing ruined him for me haha.

Steve Vai is fucking gay.  He's so good it's like trying watch a robot play.  I would give anything to see him make a mistake live and have to recover from it.

Now, Tommy Emmanuel on the other hand... he kicks fucking ass everywhere he goes.

Indeed he's damn good. Reminds me of my first guitar teacher; I asked him to teach me the blues. His response, "You wanna play the blues?! I can't teach you that, but I can tell you how to learn. First thing you need to do is find the biggest, fattest, nastiest black chick and fuck her. Then you'll be on your way to playing some blues."

That shit still makes me laugh, but yeah music is all about the emotion. You can hit notes all day long, but it doesn't mean shit until you play the notes. Steve Vai doesn't play, he just hits notes very quickly.

Although there are a lot of people who like that type of thing, and I have to agree he is good at hitting notes; I just need more substance.

^ 5 Finger Death Punch sounds like Nickleback - not too shabby.

As for Steve Vai earlier up - I gotta agree - the limited exposure I've had to his work seems like virtuosity for its own sake rather than anything catchy I'd listen to - maybe it's closer to Jazz.

Check it out around 2.45 fucking wow. Impressive. I will same one thing for Steve Vai though - guitar face. He IS Guitar Face.
