The Jams of War
« on: Feb03-2008, 22:20:07 »
What's your favorite genre to play in the background of good pvp smashing? When I'm in an especially dark mood, I put on some Apocalyptica. They're german if you haven't heard of them, three or four guys with cellos and violins who usually do bad ass covers of Metallica.

Usually I've got a playlist of tool/apoc/chemical Brothers to keep the energy flowing. Though...if the game has an especially good soundtrack, I usually leave that on; like in Oblivion.

I either listen to NPR or this tape I made of people sneezing at the library.

Seriously, though, maybe I'm alone on this, but I never ever put on pop music while I'm playing games. I play pop music. I love it. But, maybe because it's so much a part of my real world experience, it completely breaks the immersion for me, no matter what the genre of game I'm playing.

Anyway, I usually just play to the soundtrack of the game -- 'though I usually mute the music portion and just get into the environmental effects (Vanguard is probably the sole exception; great fuggin scoring on that title, if nothing else).

There are some games where I can't stand the in-game music, like DAoC and EQ2. The crazy battle jingles in those two never thrilled me.

Nothing really, either in game music or the television in the background.

I keep my whole, considerably large, collection of music on random. I have a little of everything except modern pop country. I just can't go there.

Although if I really need a specific sound, I usually go for The Planets by Gustav Holst. That reliably makes me want to destroy shit.

But what era of Ministry? If it's anything post-Psalm 69 it's worthless.
